Aerospace Firm Fined $20 Million for Falsely Filing as a Women-Owned Business

A U.S. civil fraud lawsuit settled yesterday fined UFC Aerospace $20 million for falsely registering as a woman-owned small business (WOSB) to secure lucrative government contracts. At no point did the company meet the requirement to have a woman-owned majority or woman-managed business operation. The classification was thought to provide a competitive advantage to secure contracts funded by the U.S. government due to mandates for WOSB hiring. Read more...

October is National Women's Small Business Month 

National Women’s Small Business Month, celebrated each October, serves to highlight the significant impact that women-owned businesses are having on the growth of the U.S. economy. Recent data shows WOSBs employ more than 8.9 million people and generate $1.4 trillion in revenue. The campaign, #10millionstrong, was launched by the National Women’s Business Council to recognize the record 10 million WOSBs operating today. Read more...

Native American Businesses Receive Significant Support from the Small Business Administration

The Small Business Administration announced yesterday the recipients of its $700,000 grant from the Management and Technical Assistance Program. Seven different firms around the country each received $100,000 to provide training, education and tools to promote the development of Native American businesses for ongoing success. Read more...

Real Estate Report Reveals Small Business is Shaping the U.S. Economy 

The growth engine for the U.S. economy is small business, as indicated by a new report from PwC US and the Urban Land Institute, “Emerging Trends in Real Estate 2016.” This report documents the shift in business real estate from large offices in big cities to smaller firms in more affordable parts of the country. Other key real estate trends include the emergence of the 18-hour city, the resurgence of the suburbs and a reduced need for urban parking lots. Read more...
